Its location is ideal, between the south facade of Diocletian’s Palace and the Port of Split, making it a must-see destination. Always bustling, the promenade regularly hosts events and sometimes even small pop-up markets.

The Riva Split Promenade is definitely worth a visit. Easy to access and pleasant to stroll along, it runs through the heart of the city in a lively and friendly atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the view, with the south facade of Diocletian’s Palace on one side and the harbor and the sea stretching as far as the eye can see on the other.
The many cafés and restaurants lining the esplanade invite you to take a break and watch the local life go by, while the Riva is also an ideal starting point for boat trips off the coast of the city. A true gathering place, it stands out as one of Split’s must-see attractions!

How to get there?
- On foot: La Riva is easily accessible from downtown Split. You can get there by crossing the Caves of Diocletian’s Palace or through Radić Brothers Square.
- By public transport: Several local buses serve a nearby stop called PAZAR 2. For timetables and routes, click here.
- By car: As the historic center is entirely pedestrianized, it’s best to park outside and walk to the Riva. There is also a parking lot next to the southeast tower of Diocletian’s Palace, but it’s very expensive and quickly sells out.

The parking lot on the southeast tower of Diocletian’s Palace is convenient, but very expensive and often full. Other parking lots around the historic center also charge, but we recommend the one at Istarska ul. 4, which is slightly cheaper.

Best time to visit
La Riva is very popular, especially in the high season of July and August. Even in low season, it remains a popular spot. To enjoy a little more peace and quiet, it’s best to visit early in the morning. Conversely, in the evening, the promenade takes on a lively, friendly atmosphere, ideal for relaxing and enjoying its unique ambience.
Length of visit and main difficulties
The Promenade Riva can be covered in less than 30 minutes, or even longer if you sit on a restaurant terrace.
The route is flat and paved, making it accessible to all, including wheelchair users. On the other hand, traffic may become more constrained and less pleasant during busy periods. Accessible public toilets are available between Riva and Promenade Côte Ouest.
Visiting with children
La Riva is ideal for a family visit and a must-see during a stay in Split. Children will be fascinated by the view of the boats in the harbor, from huge ferries to small yachtsmen. In the evening, they can play around the illuminated fountain, while parents enjoy the lively, friendly atmosphere of the promenade.

The Promenade Riva is full of cafés and restaurants, but these are not necessarily the best places for lunch, in our opinion. For a more authentic culinary experience, we recommend entering the old town. We particularly enjoyed the Restaurant Konoba Marjanfor its tasty traditional local cuisine, and the Restaurant Figwhich offers light, modern and creative dishes, perfect for a gourmet break.
