The overall impression is of a place conceived as a collection of objects and atmospheres, where every nook and cranny contributes to the identity of the place. We loved the atmosphere, reminiscent of a cabinet of curiosities. The secret garden, where the restaurant and breakfast area are located, gives the place an intimate, almost confidential feel. The space was well laid out, with chic contemporary furnishings including a sofa, desk and headboard incorporating subtle lighting. Comfortable bedding and practical amenities such as a TV, safe and home automation system to control light and temperature were also provided.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Croatia\/Zadar\/Hotel-almayer\/i-HrCVcV3\/0\/L65rP6SG9JxG6FK2bvVMczPs7hpCmfbD3nnD5FmxL\/L\/Almayer%20Art%20%26%20Heritage%20Hotel%20Zadar-22-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>We also appreciated the soothing view over the restaurant&#8217;s garden and the streets of the old town, with windows that open to let in fresh air. We also enjoyed the hot drinks, perfectly prepared by a barista.   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Croatia\/Zadar\/Hotel-almayer\/i-LQnCGW9\/0\/MZGFqGX6XsXg6X8ccSCDGhQvQ2tckM2NhF4Z4CLtP\/L\/Almayer%20Art%20%26%20Heritage%20Hotel%20Zadar-57-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>This morning moment perfectly reflects the spirit of the hotel: refined, neat and focused on customer satisfaction. We found it an excellent way to start the day before setting off to explore Zadar. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equipment and common areas<\/h2>\n\n<p>The garden is the social heart of the hotel: a place to read, enjoy an aperitif or a quiet meal. The hotel does not offer sports facilities or a swimming pool (this is not its positioning), but makes up for this with a cultural offer and a refined restaurant. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Croatia\/Zadar\/Hotel-almayer\/i-psqfzGv\/0\/KqMcJ8BrwfsHFKJ8LxdK2gjt8HwwcxQxTtkGsCLJZ\/L\/Almayer%20Art%20%26%20Heritage%20Hotel%20Zadar-44-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The restoration<\/h2>\n\n<p>The Corte restaurant, part of the hotel, offers gourmet cuisine featuring local produce. Although we weren&#8217;t able to dine there (as it was closed during our out-of-season visit), we were impressed by its reputation for creativity and refinement. In our opinion, this is a major asset of the establishment. This culinary offering reflects the establishment&#8217;s desire to combine contemporary design, comfort and haute cuisine, making the Almayer a prime choice if you&#8217;re a gourmet!   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Croatia\/Zadar\/Hotel-almayer\/i-dQZPNPp\/0\/MdqFspzGw4VtNgqv67w9wHM43WB5ZKKmGWxQz7c5F\/L\/Almayer%20Art%20%26%20Heritage%20Hotel%20Zadar-66-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A little history<\/h2>\n\n<p>Almayer Art &amp; Heritage occupies buildings steeped in history in the heart of the Campo Castello district.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The main building dates back to 1863, built as an outbuilding of a military hospital on the remains of the former Saint-Nicolas monastery.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Just a few steps away, the<em> Bianchini<\/em> house, now an outbuilding of the hotel, was built in 1914 as a modern private residence.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Having survived the wars and upheavals of the 20th century, the 2 buildings were bought in 2014 by Irina Bakija and Vjekoslav Bobi\u0107.
