Just a 20-minute streetcar ride from the center of Zagreb<\/strong>, Lake Jarun<\/strong>, nicknamed “the sea of Zagreb”, offers a pleasant natural setting and a wide variety of activities, from swimming and walking to sports and picnics. During our visit, we enjoyed the clarity of the water and discovered a lively yet peaceful atmosphere in the heart of the city. <\/p>\n\n

Is Jarun Beach worth it?<\/h2>\n\n

Yes, Jarun Beach is well worth a visit if you want to combine leisure and nature without leaving Zagreb. This long pebble beach<\/strong> stretches along a cove of the artificial lake Jarun. We were seduced by the variety of atmospheres<\/strong> offered by the lake: six islands linked by bridges, a vast nautical stadium, quiet swimming areas, walking paths… The setting is both urban and soothing. The water is clear, the facilities well-maintained, and it’s easy to spend a few hours between sport, relaxation and discovery. The beach is one of our top activities in Zagreb. <\/p>\n\n

Type of beach<\/h2>\n\n

Sand or no sand?<\/h3>\n\n

Plage Jarun is a beach of medium to large<\/strong>, fairly light-colored pebbles<\/strong>. They are sometimes a little abrasive. We advise you to bring sandals to walk comfortably down to the water or along the shore. The absence of sand in no way detracts from the experience, especially if you’re looking for a clean beach. <\/p>\n\n

Swimming conditions and supervision<\/h3>\n\n

At the time of our visit, the water was remarkably translucent<\/strong>, with a few algae visible but not impeding swimming. The gradient is gradual, allowing a gentle entry into the water. Lifeguard posts<\/strong> are in place throughout the summer, and we observed no signs of danger or strong currents. The atmosphere is peaceful, even on busy days. <\/p>\n\n

Installations<\/h3>\n\n

We found the beach well-equipped<\/strong>, but not overly so. Picnic tables, benches, toilets, showers, first-aid post… everything you need to spend a few hours in good conditions. A number of wildlife information panels <\/strong>are scattered along the promenade. There are several bicycle parking areas<\/strong>, and the paths are well laid out to make getting around a breeze. <\/p>\n\n

Access to Jarun Beach in Zagreb<\/h2>\n\n

Where is Jarun Beach?<\/h3>\n\n

Jarun Beach is located in the Jarun district<\/strong> of Zagreb. <\/p>\n\n

You’ll find it in a wide cove at the eastern end of the vast Jarun artificial lake<\/strong>. Another part of the lake has been converted into a water sports stadium. Bicycle paths and wide promenades everywhere, a green and airy setting just a few streetcar stops from the city center. <\/p>\n\n

Access by car and parking<\/h3>\n\n

We had a little trouble finding access to the beach in the Jarun district. It’s easier to find parking close to the nautical stadium<\/strong>. So we left our car in an adjacent street and walked to the site. The popularity of the site can also affect parking, which quickly becomes saturated in high season<\/strong>. It is therefore advisable to arrive early to take full advantage of the lake’s leisure facilities and beach. <\/p>\n\n

Access from the parking lot<\/h3>\n\n

We couldn’t find any precise directions from the street for walking to Plage Jarun. However, the layout of the site, with its many cycle paths and footpaths<\/strong>, meant that we could easily reach the beach and its translucent swimming areas. <\/p>\n\n
