Banje beach is an iconic beach in Dubrovnik, Croatia. We liked it for its easy access and crystal-clear waters. Close to the old town, it offers spectacular views of the medieval ramparts and the island of Lokrum, adding an exceptional character to the place. We were seduced by its lively atmosphere and the beauty of the panorama over the walled city. Despite the high number of visitors, the beach is perfect for those looking for a place to swim in Dubrovnik.
In this article, we share all our useful tips for making the most of Dubrovnik’s Banje Beach.

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We made our own choices, visited the area anonymously, and paid our bills in full.
Is Banje Beach worth it?
Yes, Banje Beach is really worth it for its exceptional location just a stone’s throw from Dubrovnik’s old town. This pebble beach offers a remarkable view of the uninhabited island of Lokrum and the historic city. We particularly appreciated the quality of the crystal-clear water and the variety of water sports on offer.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
Banje beach is made up of medium-grained sand at the restaurant and smooth pebbles at the beach entrance. This golden mix provides a pleasant surface on which to lie, even if there are a few rocks on the sides. We advise you to bring water shoes for greater comfort when swimming.

Swimming conditions and supervision
The gentle slope of the beach facilitates gradual entry into crystal-clear, clean water, which is generally calm all year round, with very few waves. Swimming is therefore very pleasant and safe, especially as the beach is supervised by lifeguards in high season. We particularly appreciated the clarity of the water and the presence of a lifeguard station, both of which enhance bathers’ safety.

Installations
We found that Banje beach is well equipped for the comfort of visitors. There are public toilets near the entrance, as well as deckchairs and parasols for hire.

There’s a restaurant serving a wide range of cuisine, and several water sports such as kayaking, waterskiing and snorkelling are available on site.

Access to Banje Beach in Dubrovnik
Where is Banje Beach
Banje Beach, or Plaža Banje in Croatian, is located in Dubrovnik, Croatia, precisely on Ploče iza grada street. It’s just 600 meters from the historic city center. You can reach the beach in about 8min on foot from the heart of Dubrovnik.

Access by car and parking
By car, the beach is accessible via a wide asphalt road. Nearby parking is limited, as there is no dedicated beach parking lot. The nearest municipal parking lot is next to the town walls, but spaces are limited.
It’s best to leave the car at your accommodation if you can.
Access from the parking lot
From the street overlooking the beach, it’s a long series of steps down to the beach. Access is via a staircase, which can be difficult with heavy luggage or a stroller.

Public transport access
There is no dedicated shuttle bus or bike path to the beach. The best option is to walk from the town center, which is quick and pleasant.
